A 66-year-old man died following a house fire early Thursday morning in Phenix City, officials said.

A home in the 800 block of 16th Avenue erupted in flames around 1:20 a.m. Thursday, according to the Russell County Coroner’s Office.

Carl O. Lewis, 66, who was in the house, was pronounced dead around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, the coroner’s office said.
