Malachi Moore, James Burnip âgame-timeâ decisions for Alabama-Arkansas
Alabama football is “preparing” to take on Arkansas this weekend without two key starters: defensive back Malachi Moore and punter James Burnip.
“Malachi and James will both be game-time decisions depending on the progress they make between now and then. But we’re preparing as if neither guy would be able to play, but I can’t say that emphatically,” Saban said during his appearance on the SEC teleconference.
Both left the Crimson Tide’s prior game against Texas A&M with lower-body injuries. UA handled their absences in a close, 26-20 win. After the game, Saban announced Moore twisted his ankle in the second quarter. Burnip pulled a muscle in his leg and while he eventually returned to the sidelines, placekicker Will Reichard handled punts.
Saban added wide receiver and special teams player Ja’Corey Brooks has been able to practice. He did not finish the game and has struggled to see the field consistently this season. He’s caught two passes in five games and blocked a punt against Ole Miss.
Moore is tied for fifth on the Tide defense with 29 total tackles. Moore also has one pass breakup and an interception. Burnip averages 45.7 yards per punt with nine downed inside the 20-yard line. Alabama also was without starting right guard Darrian Dalcourt against the Aggies. Third-year player Jaeden Roberts filled in.
The Tide will host the Razorbacks at 11 a.m. this weekend for Alabama’s homecoming game.
