Make your choice for the Day 1 AHSAA Volleyball Tournament Player of the Day
A long, exciting first day of the 54th AHSAA Elite 8 State Volleyball Championships wrapped up Tuesday night at the Birmingham CrossPlex with finalists set in all seven classes.
The student-athletes battled all day and turned in some great performances with everything on the line. AL.com wants you to select the Tournament Player of the Day by voting in the survey below. We’ll announce your choice for the top player on Thursday, along with the Day 2 Tournament Player of the Day poll (with those results coming on Friday).

The nominees:
Cailyn Boykin, Spanish Fort. Boykin had 37 assists, 6 digs and 2 aces as the Toros (59-10) topped Chelsea 3-0 in the Class 6A semifinals. Spanish Fort will play Pelham for the title on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham CrossPlex. In a sweep of Hazel Green in the quarterfinals, she had 34 assists.
Lauren Buchanan, Chelsea. In a Class 6A semifinal loss to Spanish Fort, the senior had 20 kills, 3 digs and 2 blocks to lead the Hornets (37-14). In the quarterfinals, Buchanan tallied 21 kills and 8 digs to lead Chelsea to a straight-set victory over Cullman.
Lydia Carter, Lindsay Lane. In a four-set win over Winston County in the Class 2A semifinals, Carter finished with 29 kills and 27 digs for the Lions (43-15). She had 17 kills and 11 digs in the quarterfinals as Lindsay Lane blanked Washington County 3-0.
Lynleigh Cobb, Winston County. The junior led the offense with 26 blocks and 3 digs in a 3-1 semifinals loss to Lindsay Lane. She had 32 kills for the Yellow Jackets in a 3-1 quarterfinal win over G.W. Long. Winston County finished the season at 39-14.
Addy Gustafson, Madison County. In a 3-2 Class 4A semifinal loss to Prattville Christian, the junior had 30 assists with 8 digs and 2 kills for the Tigers (43-16). In a quarterfinal win over St. Michael, she finished with 34 assists, 20 digs and 4 kills. She was one of four Madison County players to record 20 or more digs in the match.
Lily Henry, Pleasant Valley. In a five-set semifinals victory over Mars Hill Bible, Henry finished with 20 kills, 17 digs and 3 assists for the defending Class 2A champions. The senior had 21 digs, 13 kills, 4 aces and 3 blocks in the quarterfinals in a 3-0 win over Horseshoe Bend. The Raiders (24-18) are looking for a second straight state title in the championship match at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday against Lindsay Lane.
Camryn McMinn, Pelham. McMinn had 17 kills, 6 digs and 3 aces in 3-0 semifinals win over Gulf Shores as the Panthers improved to 37-13 on the year. In the quarterfinals, she had 18 kills, 9 digs and 2 blocks to lead the Panthers to a 25-21, 25-12, 25-20 victory over Jasper.
Baylee Rogers, Prattville Christian. The junior setter had 57 assists, 14 digs, 2 aces and 2 kills in a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Madison County in the Class 4A semifinals. The Panthers (44-14) won the match 22-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-18, 15-9 to advance to the title match against Alexandria (46-13). In the quarterfinals, she had 30 assists and 14 digs for the Panthers in a 3-0 win over Cherokee County.
Layla Smith, Hoover. The senior had 14 kills and 2 aces as the Bucs were eliminated from the title chase in the Class 7A semifinals by defending champion McGill-Toolen. In a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Enterprise, Smith had 19 kills and 4 aces for Hoover, which finished the season at 40-11.
Kennedy Vaughn, Bob Jones. The senior outside hitter had 14 kills, 8 digs and 3 blocks as the Patriots (52-9) beat Vestavia Hills in three sets to earn a Class 7A championship match berth against McGill-Toolen at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The championship showdown is a rematch of last season’s finals. Vaughn had 12 kills, 10 digs and 2 blocks in a three-set win over Bayside Academy in the quarterfinals – halting the Admirals’ streak of making the semifinals every year since 1989.
