Major vehicle manufacturer recalls over 80,000 cars for software malfunction
Kia America, Inc. has recalled 82,281 vehicles due to parking lights that may flicker.
This can reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
“A software error in the Power-net Domain Controller (PDC) may cause the parking lights to flicker,” the release reads.
“As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.”
The recall only applies to the 2025 K5, according to the release.
The PDC software will soon be updated to remedy the issue by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge, according to the company.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 24, 2025.
Owners may also contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.
Kia’s number for this recall is SC341.
