Major leak repair off US 280 may leave Birmingham Water Works customers with little or no pressure
Birmingham Water Works customers along U.S. 280 may experience low water pressure or no water at all beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday as the utility service conducts repairs to a major leak in the area, officials said today.
The water works will repair a water main off U.S. 280 near the Shades Mountain Filter Plant and the Summit.
Customers in the area including Birmingham, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook near the Summit, Cahaba Heights and along Rocky Ridge Road could be impacted for at least eight hours beginning late Thursday night.
The leaks comes weeks after customers in that area complained of a foul smell and an “earthy” taste to their water that the BWWB attributed to geosmin in the water.
