Madison wants public input on plans to redraw city council districts
The city of Madison will host a public meeting on a proposed redistricting plan next Monday August 14.
A presentation will be given in the Madison City Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m. Residents attending the meeting will be given the opportunity to ask questions and comment about the plan.
Every 10 years jurisdictions with city council districts evaluate whether a change to their district boundaries is needed based on the most recent U.S. Census population data, a release from the city said.
At a public meeting held on Sept. 27, 2021, the city’s consultants presented data showing that redistricting is warranted. The city follows five steps in reviewing and implementing redistricting; currently, the city is on stage three, defining and developing a new plan. Residents are invited and encouraged to participate in the public meetings.
After the public hearing the city council is expected to adopt a plan at its Sept. 11 meeting.
