Madison County’s $3.25 million election warehouse expected to be ready for 2024 general election

By the time Madison County voters cast their ballots for president in November 2024, Probate Judge Frank Barger’s office could be operating out of it’s new $3.25 million elections warehouse.

Barger said construction for the building, under renovation off U.S. 431 in the Owens Cross Roads- Hampton Cove area, is expected to take between 260-270 days to complete.

“We’ve taken an old skating rink and turned it into something beneficial for us,” Barger said. He puts the cost of renovating the former skating rink and entertainment center at between $1.5 million and $1.75 million.

“What I’m most proud of, when we looked at new construction, we’re going to come in with this building — when it’s a completed project, it’s probably going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.5 million to $3 million less than it would have cost us to build a new structure, not including the cost of the land it’s on,” Barger said.

The building is about 28,000-square feet.
