Madison County students can only attend games for schools they are enrolled in under new policy

Madison County Schools has a new athletic admission policy which it says will go into effect this week.

The policy lays out admission for students and their families.

“As a school district, we appreciate your patience and willingness to assist us in making our athletics events a safe and family-friendly venue,” an announcement on the system Facebook page reads.

For high schools, students in grades nine through 12 must present a valid student identification card or driver’s license and game ticket, and only students from the participating schools will be admitted.

The ID cards can be screenshot on a mobile device, printed onto a sheet of paper, or accessed through a web browser on a device and presented at an admission gate.

“Students whose school is not participating in the event will be denied entry,” the policy states.

For elementary and middle schools, students must be accompanied by a parent, and the parent must remain at the event for students to stay at the game.

Spectators cannot carry large bags or backpacks unless there is a parental or medical need, and spectators must stay clear of the walkways. Loitering is not permitted.

In addition, ticket sales will be capped at 80% of the venue’s capacity for football, and 90% for all other sports.

“If safety concerns continued, then additional restrictions for attendance will be implemented,” the announcement posted on the system’s Facebook page reads.

The policy comes after the season opener between the Hazel Green and Sparkman high school football teams was suspended due to a flash mob incident.
