Madison County embarking on 10-year, $101 million road plan
Madison County is embarking on a 10-year, $101 million road plan, County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon announced at his State of the County address at the Von Braun Center on Tuesday.
The projects are not included among work being done through the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Organization, McCutcheon said. Currently, MPO projects total about $400 million,
“Our metropolitan organization deals with state and federal highway infrastructure,” he said. “We are addressing county roads and intersections.”
McCutcheon said there are 29 road projects in the 10-year plan. He said some of the engineering work has been done for the projects, and the county has already invested funds into some of the work.
The chairman said the county has “been more reactive, instead of proactive” over the years. He said the plan was put together to address growth and traffic demand. McCutcheon said Madison County had a population of more than 400,000, with 125,000 living in unincorporated areas.
