Macyâs cutting about 2,350 jobs, closing 5 stores
Macy’s will cut some 2,350 jobs and close five stores, according to reports in The Wall-Street Journal.
The layoffs will constitute about 13% of its corporate staff, WSJ reported, citing a memo. It’s unclear which jobs will be cut but the memo said it plans to add more automation to its supply chain, outsource additional roles and reduce management layers to speed decision-making.
Five stores will also be shut down, according to the report. Set for closure are Macys’ locations in Ballston Quarter, Arlington, Virginia; Bayfair Center, San Leandro, California.; Kukui Grove Center, Lihue, Hawaii; Simi Valley Town Center, Simi Valley, California.; and Governor’s Square, Tallahassee, Florida.
Macy’s will also be shifting more resources to areas that impact customers, including adding more visual display managers to improve store appearance and upgrades to online shopping platforms.
Layoffs are set to take place Jan. 26.
Macy’s has one store in Alabama at the Riverchase Galleria.
