LSU’s Angel Reese declares for 2024 WNBA draft

LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese announced Wednesday she will forego her final season and enter the WNBA draft.

Reese made the announcement in an interview with Vogue magazine and later posted a farewell message on social media. The decision comes two days after Reese and the defending national champion Tigers lost 94-87 to Iowa in the Elite Eight of the Women’s NCAA tournament.

“I’ve done everything I wanted to in college,” Reese told Vogue. “I’ve won a national championship, I’ve gotten SEC Player of the Year, I’ve been an All-American. My ultimate goal is to be a pro — and to be one of the greatest basketball players to play, ever. I feel like I’m ready.”

The 6-foot-3 Reese averaged 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game this past season for the Tigers, who finished 31-6. A Baltimore native, she played two years at Maryland before transferring to LSU, which she helped to the NCAA tournament championship in 2023 and a 65-8 record in two seasons.

Reese was SEC Player of the Year in 2024 and was a first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC pick in both 2023 and 2024. She was a first-team All-Big Ten selection 2022.

The 2024 WNBA draft takes place April 15. The Indiana Fever have the No. 1 pick and are expected to draft Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark, with Reese projected to go somewhere in the Top 10.
