LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier makes decision on future, per report

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is staying at LSU.

According to a report by On3, Nussmeier did not enter the transfer portal.

Nussmeier, who will be a redshirt sophomore, will stay and compete Jayden Daniels, the returning starter, this fall.

Daniels will be in his final year of eligibility, while Nussmeier has three years remaining. He played in four games as a true freshman, then in seven games last year.

Per the report, Kelly hasn’t backed away from Daniels being the starting quarterback, but he has said Nussmeier will be given a chance to win more playing time.

“We have two starters. Both can win in the SEC. Both have played at the highest level,” Kelly said. “We’re blessed and fortunate.”

Last month, Daniels finished 10 of 11 passing for 168 yards and two touchdowns, while Nussmeier finished 5-of-8 passing for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Daniels, who started at quarterback for the White, connected on 70-yard touchdown with Kyren Lacy.

Nussmeier was just as effective, finding Brian Thomas for a 51-yard completion on a first-and-10 play. Two plays later, he converted for a first-down pass to Lacy before throwing a 7-yard scoring strike.
