LSU fined $100K for court-storming after Kentucky win

LSU has been fined $100,000 for violating the SEC’s “access to competition area” policy after fans stormed the court following a 75-74 victory over Kentucky in Baton Rouge on Wednesday.

The penalty is part of the revised SEC policy that went into effect last year, which ramped up financial penalties significantly and stipulates that fines are now paid to the opposing institution. The penalties now included $100,000 for a first offense, $250,000 for a second offense and $500,000 for a third and subsequent offenses.

LSU won Wednesday on Tyrell Ward’s short floater as time expired, capping a 17-point comeback over No. 17 Kentucky. It was the second straight comeback victory for the Tigers, who overcame an 18-point deficit to beat No. 11 South Carolina on Saturday.
