ACC Championship betting odds: Louisville (+350 or better)
Florida State is a hefty favorite to win the ACC Championship at -400. The Cardinals haven’t officially clinched a conference title game berth, but FanDuel lists the Seminoles as 9.5-point favorites to take down Louisville.
A win over Miami this week seals a spot in the conference title game for Louisville, and the Cardinals are one-point road underdogs.
Jawhar Jordan and Jamari Thrash have been sensational, combining for 1,710 yards and 17 touchdowns. Florida State’s defense allows only 17 points per game, narrowly trailing Louisville for the best mark in the ACC, but has been susceptible against the run.
Jordan and Isaac Guerendo must be on their A-games to pull the upset. Jack Plummer has impressive stats as well and must avoid turnovers to keep things close with the Noles.
Plummer’s nine interceptions are the third-most in the conference, and the Cardinals have had no problems crushing opponents in games that the former Purdue and Cal QB avoids giveaways.
Florida State’s high-powered offense scores the 13th-most points per game, led by veteran QB Jordan Travis. The 23-year-old can do it all, passing for 2,734, 20 touchdowns, and two interceptions while running for 160 yards and seven scores.
Mike Norvell’s squad is pass-heavy, with three players totaling 400+ yards. Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman is Travis’ top target, particularly in the redzone. Coleman has 10 touchdowns, and the rest of the team has 13 scoring catches.
Louisville needs to be on point in all three phases to take down the undefeated Noles. If the Cardinals earn a spot in the ACC Championship and the spread stays at 9.5 points, Louisville has enough talent to keep it within the number.
Louisville future betting odds: To make the College Football Playoff (+2000 or better)
If not for Louisville’s 38-21 loss to Pittsburgh, a case could be made for the Cardinals to earn a CFP spot with a win over Florida State.
Help is required from other teams to open a spot in the final four. Week 11 losses from Ole Miss and Penn State moved Louisville to No. 10 in the latest CFP rankings, with more work still to be done.
Let’s start by assuming the teams mentioned below will win their remaining regular-season matchups, and the Cardinals come out on top in the ACC Championship.
Georgia beating Alabama in the SEC Championship eliminates the Crimson Tide from contention. However, a narrow win from the Tide creates the possibility of two SEC CFP representatives.
If either Ohio State or Michigan wins big when they meet in Week 13, the loser will be out of the playoff picture. But if it’s a tight final score, an argument could be made for both teams to qualify.
A Texas defeat in the Big 12 Championship ends the Longhorns’ CFP dreams, and the loser of Oregon vs. Washington will be out of the CFP race when they meet in the Pac-12 Championship. Then, it will be up to the committee to decide if Louisville’s victory over FSU trumps the Pac-12 winner’s resume, which is unlikely.
Cardinals fans should start picking four-leaf clovers and rubbing rabbit’s feet to get Louisville into the College Football Playoff.
