Louisiana diver drowns cleaning boat at Orange Beach marina, police say

The body of a Louisiana man who had been diving underneath his boat to clean it was found Saturday evening in an apparent drowning, Orange Beach police said Monday morning.

Lt. David Johnson said officers were called to the Wharf Marina along Wharf Parkway about 1 p.m. Saturday on a report of a diver who had not been seen for several hours.

Once at the scene, officers learned the man had last been seen about 7:30 a.m., but never resurfaced.

Dive teams were dispatched to the scene and located the man’s body underneath the boat about 6 p.m., Johnson said.

The body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to be autopsied, but foul play is not suspected.
