Lotus drummer Chuck Morris, son, Charley, found dead in Arkansas lake
The bodies of Lotus drummer Chuck Morris and his 20-year-old son, Charley, were found Sunday in an Arkansas lake.
The father and son had been presumed dead after they disappeared on a kayaking trip in Beaver Lake in northwest Arkansas on March 16.
“Our heart goes out [to] the family of Chuck and Charley Morris and we are thankful today that we can help bring closure,” the Benton County sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
The Morris family lived together in Kansas City and took a family trip to Arkansas in mid-March after Chuck finished up a tour with Lotus and Charley was on spring break from Ohio Wesleyan University, according to ABC News.
“We thought it would be a great idea for Chuck and Charley to be able to get on the kayaks before a storm hit,” Chuck’s wife, Jennifer Thompson, told the outlet.
However, the waters of Beaver Lake were choppy that day. When Thompson and her daughter returned from their own day out, Chuck and Charley were nowhere to be found.
On the first night of searching, first responders found a kayak. On the second day, they found another. Chuck’s hat and coat also washed ashore, but there was no sign of him or his son. Just a few days after the search began, Chuck and Charley were presumed to have drowned.
Authorities continued scouring the lake for their remains, searching depths up to 180 feet below the surface using a remote-operated vehicle.
“Sheriff [Shawn] Holloway, along with the family of Chuck and Charley, would like to thank all the men and women who donated their time and efforts to help bring closure to the family and recover the two missing men,” the sheriff’s office said Sunday.
