Los Angeles Rams release former Alabama tight end

The Los Angeles Rams became the only NFL team without a player from an Alabama high school or college on its roster when they released Miller Forristall on Tuesday.

The former Alabama tight end had been on the Rams’ practice squad since Sept. 12, and he had not appeared in a game this season. This is the seventh time that Forristall has been released in his NFL career.

Los Angeles had signed Forristall after placing tight end Hunter Long on injured reserve. Long has returned from his hamstring injury and played his first offensive snaps this season in the Rams’ past two games.

Forristall joined Los Angeles after being waived by the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 26 as they reduced their preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53 players.

Forristall spent five seasons with the Crimson Tide. In his final two seasons, Forristall caught 38 passes for 420 yards and five touchdowns.

Forristall entered the NFL in May 2021 by signing with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted rookie. He spent time on the practice squads of the Titans and the Browns that season.

Forristall played in two games as a rookie and four in the 2022 season with Cleveland. In those games, Forristall was on the field for 27 offensive snaps and 61 special-teams plays.

Forristall signed with the New Orleans Saints on Jan. 26.

With training camp about to start, the Saints put Forristall on the physically-unable-to-perform list on July 20 with an undisclosed injury. On July 24, the Saints announced Forristall had passed his physical, making him eligible to practice in training camp. But on July 25, New Orleans waived Forristall.

Forristall signed with the Browns on Aug. 4.
