The roots of shrimp and grits wind through place and time. Back to the 1930s (at least) and Charleston, South Carolina, leading all the way into the previous century (at least) and Africa. Now in the 2020s, the limbs and leaves extend into Huntsville, Alabama, where the dish is a mainstay at many local restaurants.
