Longtime car wash to close after more than 30 years in downtown Birmingham

A car wash with deep roots in Birmingham is closing after more than three decades downtown.

Etheridge Senior Car Wash opened 31 years ago by Willie Etheridge and is now run by his granddaughters, April Pritchett-White and Ashley Pritchett.

“After 31 wonderful years, we regret to announce that we will be closing our doors,” Pritchett-White and Pritchett said on the business’ Facebook page.

“The evolving economy and challenges in hiring have made it increasingly difficult for us to continue operating at the level of excellence you have come to expect,” the post read. “Our last day of business will be October 26, 2024.”

Etheridge Senior Car Wash has been a fixture in downtown Birmingham and is one of several businesses owned by Etheridge’s family over the last 50 years.

The Etheridge family’s businesses include five barbershops and a catering facility.

“We deeply appreciate your support and loyalty throughout the years. It has been a privilege to serve you, and we will cherish the memories and relationships we’ve built,” said Pritchett-White and Pritchett. “Thank you for being apart of our journey.”
