Longtime Birmingham firm sells business operating in 3 states to Chattanooga company
Birmingham’s Buffalo Rock Co. has sold its vending operations to a Chattanooga-based company for an undisclosed amount.
Effective Monday, the company has divested its full-line vending operations to Five Star Breaktime Solutions, Canteen North America and other Canteen franchise operators across Alabama, west Georgia, and the Florida panhandle.
Buffalo Rock is the nation’s largest single-family, privately-owned Pepsi and Keurig Dr Pepper bottler, and has been family-owned for nearly 125 years.
The company’s full-line vending operations has grown to almost 700 micro markets and more than 7,600 vending locations.
Buffalo Rock will maintain its local operations as a Pepsi and Keurig Dr Pepper bottler with service from all existing franchise sales center locations.
Five Star Breaktime Solutions is a provider for employers and commercial, institutional and educational locations. Its operations include breakroom markets, full-line vending, pantry, coffee and water services, full-service dining and catering in 11 states.
Founded in 1993, it is one of the largest privately held convenience services operators in the U.S. and the largest franchise of Canteen, an unattended retail provider.
Five Star will add to its base of business from all or parts of 10 of Buffalo Rock’s 14 franchise sales center locations. The remaining business will be split between the associated local Canteen partners.
Buffalo Rock CEO Matthew Dent said Five Star and Canteen are “two outstanding organizations that share our commitment to service excellence.”
“This strategic partnership allows us to focus on our core beverage business while ensuring our vending customers continue to receive best-in-class service,” Dent said.
David Miller, Buffalo Rock’s senior vice president of customer strategy, marketing and brand development, said the deal will allow the company to sharpen its focus on beverages and “continue to deliver exceptional products and service to our retail and on-premise customers while driving growth and innovation in the market.”
