Live updates: Saban discusses Rose Bowl loss to Michigan

Alabama’s season is over at 12-2 after a 27-20 loss to Michigan in Monday night’s Rose Bowl.

Follow along for updates from Nick Saban’s post-game press conference …

— Saban in the postgame: “This is one of the most amazing seasons in Alabama football history in terms of where this team came from and what they were able to do.”

— Saban on first half pass protection: “Couple of times we could have redirected protection and didn’t do it. Mis-executed up front. Did a better job in second half. Didn’t give Jalen enough opportunities to make plays.”

— Saban on last play: “We called three plays: one we called timeout, one they called timeout, and the last one. It didn’t work, so it must have been a bad call.” Says it was just like a two-point play because it was at the 3-yard line.

— Milroe on last play: Glad he had ball in his hands on the last play. “We need to win the last time we have the ball. Unfortunately we didn’t.”

— Saban on special teams: Special teams did good job on field position. Good job punting. Will made a huge kick. They missed a field goal, which put us is a good position.

— Saban on what led to loss: We had too many drive-stopping plays on offense. We didn’t play well enough to win on defense. We could have done things better. That’s on me and the coaches.
