Live updates: Hugh Freeze recaps Louisiana-Monroe, previews Texas A&M matchup

After scoring a 48-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe, Auburn football now prepares for the first of two Southeastern Conference games to close the regular season.

Texas A&M is the next team up for the Tigers, an opponent that beat Auburn 27-10 in College Station last season. Hugh Freeze is scheduled to meet with the media at 1 p.m. to preview the upcoming game.

Follow along below for live updates from Freeze’s Monday press conference:

  • Freeze starts by saying he thought the team played well against ULM. Highlighted both the offense’s and defense’s performance on third downs.
  • Freeze says Texas A&M is “loaded with NFL talent on defense.”
  • Freeze said getting playmakers involved early and winning on first down are two of the most important things for the offense.
  • Freeze says Ian Vachon will continue to handle placekicking duties for Auburn this season. Adds that he thinks Towns McGough’s future is “extremely bright,” but doesn’t want to go away from Vachon who hasn’t missed a field goal yet.
  • When asked about facing Marcel Reed, Freeze said they were “pretty awful” at containing mobile quarterbacks early in the season, but thought they improved as the season went on. Adds that they’ll draw upon previous games when gameplanning for Reed.
  • Freeze says Demarcus Riddick is a big factor in slowing down mobile quarterbacks. Added, “we changed when we started playing him.”
  • Freeze says he “doesn’t do much of that” when asked about having conversations with current players regarding re-recruiting. Says the personnel department handles most of those conversations. Also gave a shoutout to Jason Campbell for representing the collective.
