HUGH FREEZE

— “Incredible beautiful, exciting time, at least for me and the coaches — and I think the players.” Said there was “great energy” at practice on Day 1. Confident if Auburn can maintain that over the next 14 practices, the team will improve this spring.

— Says he “felt a sense of that fall camp feeling” out there today.

— Coaches were well-prepared for the time they had. Would have obviously liked more time for winter workouts, but that’s just how the schedule shaped out this offseason. Quick turnaround from assembling staff, recruiting, winter workouts to spring practice.

— Freeze says it was hard for him to judge what was good, what wasn’t without seeing the film, but he was thrilled with the energy and effort out there.

— Freeze tried to bounce around to every different position group throughout practice. Says everybody got “plenty of reps” on Day 1.

— The “main thing” for him is the attention to detail — from class attendance in the morning all the way through practice. “It doesn’t come natural to a lot of people, not just football players.” Emphasizes that “little things truly are the main thing,” and he hopes that’s the No. 1 lesson this spring.

— Team looked better on the field, physically, than he expected. Good burst. Saw some good throws from the QBs, but other times where the mechanics weren’t up to par. Restates that if the same effort and energy is applied throughout spring, he’s confident the team will improve.
