Live updates from DeBoer’s first A-Day game with Alabama football

Kalen DeBoer’s debut with Alabama football has arrived. The Crimson Tide is set to finish off spring practice with Saturday’s A-Day game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The game came after a day of festivities in Tuscaloosa, including the Walk of Fame ceremony for the 2023 team’s permanent captains, Jalen Milroe, Malachi Moore and Dallas Turner. Nick Saban spoke at that ceremony, praising the players and thanking the fans.

The A-Day game is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. on ESPN. Follow along here for live updates.

Pregame

— Bucking A-Day tradition, the Tide won’t be split into two full teams. The offense will wear white and the defense will wear crimson, with both teams able to score points.

— Scoring rules for the defense: A takeaway is seven points, a three-and-out is three, a missed field goal or a punt each count for two points. There’s also a sliding scale for fourth-down stops, depending on where the offense is on the field.

1st quarter

1st drive

— Defense kicks off. Offense starts out of at its on 25.

— Drive starts off with a long run into defensive territory by Jam Miller. Justice Haynes caps the drive off with a six-yard touchdown. Offense leads 7-0 after the extra point.

2nd drive

–Alabama driving the other way, with what looks to be the second-team offense. Ty Simpson is in at quarterback.

— Simpson makes a nice throw to Kendrick Law, before Richard Young carries it across midfield.

— Simpson throws a long interception to Bray Hubbard, who knocks over a referee on the sideline. Referee then stands up and calls play incomplete.

— Young runs for a touchdown. Offense goes up 14-0 after the extra point.

3rd drive

— First-team offense, led by Jalen Milroe, is back on the field.

— Milroe goes deep to Germie Bernard, a 52-yard completion down to the two-yard line.

— Jam Miller goes two yards for a touchdown. 21-0 in the offense’s favor.

4th drive

— Dylan Lonergan in at quarterback.

— Crimson Tide moves slowly but surely up the field. Offense currently sitting at the 13-yard line.

— Defense takes a timeout.

— Reed Schuback makes a 27-yard field goal. Offense leads 24-0.

5th drive

— Ty Simpson throws deep to Kobe Prentice to start off the drive. Jam Miller then runs it to the two-yard line.

— Jam Miller runs it in from four yards out. Offense takes a 31-0 lead after the extra point.

6th drive

— Washington transfer Austin Mack gets his first turn at quarterback.

— Drive stalls out early. The defense gets its first points on the board. Offense still leads 31-6.

— Alabama announces attendance as 72,358.
