Live updates as UAB returns from bye week to face Florida Atlantic

Welcome to Protective Stadium, where UAB (2-6, 1-3 AAC) looks to get its season back on track against Florida Atlantic (4-4, 3-1 AAC). The Blazers are a 2.5-point underdog to Florida Atlantic for the 2 p.m. CT kickoff in the game that will air on ESPN+.

The Blazers need to win their final four games to attain bowl eligibility for an eighth straight season. Despite missing the Memphis game, quarterback Jacob Zeno still ranks top 10 in completions per game (27) and completion rate (74.4 percent), while running back Jermaine Brown Jr. is 268 yards away from setting the program record for career all-purpose yards.

First Quarter

— The Blazers put together a 7-play, 88-yard scoring drive and a 46-yard catch-and-run from Jermaine Brown Jr. makes it UAB 7, Florida Atlantic 0 with 11 seconds left in the opening frame.

— FAU drives deep into Blazer territory but is forced to punt following a sack from Michael Moore. UAB goes three-and-out on its next offensive possession but forces Flordia Atlantic into a turnover on downs inside the UAB red zone.

— The Blazers drive quickly into the red zone but an offensive pass interference call on Amare Thomas forces a third-and-long. Brandon Buckhaulter made up the penalty yardage on the next play but Matt Quinn’s 35-yard field goal attempt was blocked on fourth down.

— Flordia Atlantic wins the toss and defers to the second half. UAB will receive the opening kickoff.

Pregame Notes

— UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno cleared concussion protocol prior to the Memphis game and is more than ready to suit up for the Blazers after two complete weeks of practice.

— Offensive linemen Tater Reid, Brennan Moran and Trey Bedosky are still injured and not in uniform today.
