Live updates as Auburn hosts Samford for Homecoming
After traveling just less than 2,500 miles to squeak out a Week 2 win over Cal last week, Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers (2-0) are likely looking forward to being back in front of their home fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday night as they host Samford (1-1) for homecoming.
Saturday night’s matchup between the Tigers and Bulldogs is the 30th in series history, but just the fifth meeting since 1945. Auburn leads the series 28-0-1 and will look to get its 29th win in series history in front of yet another sold-out crowd at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
After a less-than-impressive performance from Auburn’s offense last week, Freeze and the Tigers will hope Saturday night’s matchup presents as an opportunity to find some kind of offensive identity and possibly nail down a more sustainable rotation at quarterback.
Keep up with Saturday’s matchup at Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium:
5:40 p.m. | Pregame
Like countless other Auburn alumni members, former Auburn basketball player Walker Kessler returned to The Plains Saturday evening to serve as Auburn’s honorary mic man.
After averaging 11.4 points per game during his two-year Auburn career, Kessler went on to be a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and plays for the Utah Jazz.
6:02 p.m. | Kickoff
Auburn’s Alex McPherson boots it away to Samford, who will let it into the end zone. Samford will start its first drive at the Bulldogs’ 25-yard line.
6:21 p.m. | Samford gets goal line stand, intercepts Payton Thorne
Despite a fresh set of downs from the Samford 1-yard line, Auburn couldn’t find the end zone as it stayed committed to the passing game, resulting an interception.
Samford’s Jaden Mosley intercepted Auburn’s Payton Thorne in the end zone, giving the Bulldogs the ball on their own 20-yard line with 7:28 to play in the first quarter.
