Calls of big plays have become old hat to Eli Gold. Yet, the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide never ceases to be amazed by what he sees.

Jalen Milroe and Isaiah Bond rescued No. 8 Alabama’s playoff hopes, connecting for a last-minute touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the 31 to beat Auburn 27-24. Bond caught Milroe’s desperation heave in the left corner of the end zone with 32 seconds left to give the Crimson Tide a 10th straight win in the latest dramatic Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

“It’s caught,” Gold called on the Crimson Tide Sports Network. “It’s caught by Isaiah Bond. Caught by Isaiah Bond in the corner of the end zone. Touchdown Alabama. The Crimson Tide with 32 seconds to go in the ball game throwing a Hail Mary to the corner of the end zone, and Isaiah Bond, who has already caught five catches today adds No. 6 as he gets to the corner ahead of DJ James.”

Not long after the game, Gold told AL.com it felt much like Alabama’s famous 2nd and 26 to beat Georgia for the College Football Playoff national championship.

“I think I said at one point that this seems like Tua (Tagovailoa) to DeVonta (Smith) kind of thing,” Gold told AL.com on Saturday night. “This team has just found ways to win all season long ever since Week 2. It was quite remarkable. It really was. So many things came to play in that last play. You had the offensive line have to give Milroe a ton of time to work, which they did. You had to get the big jump from the receiving end. It was typical of Alabama-Auburn games.’

“It had that feeling. It was the national championship of our state, so I should say the state championship, but it was the national championship of our state because it was such a big ball game. It was huge, man. It was just huge.”

Trailing by four with 1:43 left, Alabama had first-and-goal at the Auburn 7 before moving backward. The Crimson Tide lost 18 yards on a bad snap and were pushed back 5 more yards with an illegal downfield pass on third down after Milroe crossed the line of scrimmage.
