A pregnant woman died in the hospital after suffering injuries from an early-morning car accident in Limestone County, authorities said.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West told AL.com the accident occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday morning on Zehner Road, south of Highway 72. The vehicle left the road, hit a ditch and flipped over, ejecting one passenger.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified the victim as Lauren Hernandez, 28, of Quincy, Ill. She was seven months pregnant at the time of the accident.

Hernandez was transported to Athens Limestone Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Troopers said the driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the crash.

The crash is under investigation.
