Lil Wayne calls out Paul Finebaum on new Swizz Beatz album
College football fans hear Taylor Hicks belt Paul Finebaum’s name in a theme song every weekday ahead of his daily ESPN television and radio talk show, but who expected legendary rapper Lil Wayne drop to a verse about the “Mouth of the South” on the new Swizz Beatz album?
Sure enough, the New Orleans-born hip-hop artist references the longtime sports broadcaster on the track “This Sh*t Right Here,” the second track on Swizz Beatz’ new EP “Hip Hop 50: Vol. 2.”
Less than a minute into the track, Lil Wayne hits us with the Finebaum lyric.
“I’m tryna talk to ‘em like Paul Finebaum/
I bring the chalk to ‘em, get that boy outlined.”
You can hear the full track here.
We can’t wait to hear what Finebaum has to say about this new honor blending sports and pop culture, so we’ll be tuning in Friday afternoon. “The Paul Finebaum Show,” which airs 2-6 p.m. during weekdays on SEC Network.
Has Paul Finebaum ever been referenced in a rap song before? There’s a first time for everything, and Finebaum just keeps making history. It’s no surprise to hear a die-hard sports fan, especially one born in SEC country, like LSU fan Lil Wayne finally do it. But Finebaum has to feel pretty good that one of the greatest MCs of all time did the honors.
Swizz Beatz produced the EP via Mass Appeal, “an ode to New York rap” featuring six tracks and prominent artists like Lil Wayne, Nas, Jadakiss, Benny The Butcher, Scar Lip, Lil Durk and Jay Electronica.
Lil Wayne will perform at Iron City Birmingham April 24, 2023 for his “Welcome to Tha Carter Tour.” Learn how to get tickets.
