Lightning strike injures child at Alabama ballpark

A child is receiving treatment after being injured by a lightning strike at a ballpark in Vance.

It happened around noon on Saturday at Vance Ballpark near Vance Town Hall, said Brian Greene, captain of the fire protection district.

“It was just a 13-year-old kid standing too close to a light pole when a storm came through,” he said.

The child was taken to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. Information about the child’s condition was not available Sunday morning.
