Level 2 severe weather risk for Alabama today: When and where to expect storms
Alabama faces another day with severe weather in the forecast.
Isolated to scattered severe storms will be possible nearly statewide on Tuesday, according to NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center.
Damaging winds, hail, heavy rain and a tornado or two will be possible today, according to the National Weather Service.
Strong to severe storms will be the most likely starting in the afternoon, and they could last into the nighttime hours.
The Storm Prediction Center’s forecast for Tuesday includes a Level 2 out of 5 (slight) for areas in Alabama roughly along and south of the Interstate 20 corridor.
A Level 2 risk means scattered severe storms will be possible.
Most of north and north-central Alabama as well as the Alabama coast will have a Level 1 risk today, which means isolated severe storms will be possible.
The only part of the state not included in a severe weather risk today is the northwest corner of Alabama. Rain and storms will be possible there, too, but organized severe weather is not expected.
More severe weather will be in the forecast for Alabama on Wednesday and Thursday as well.
TUESDAY
Storms were ongoing on Tuesday morning to the west of Alabama in south Mississippi, and a severe thunderstorm watch was ongoing right up to the Alabama state line.
The weather service thinks that rain and storms will be possible through the day today, but the better chances for severe storms will begin this afternoon and last into the nighttime hours.
WEDNESDAY
Areas roughly along and south of Interstate 20 will have a Level 1 risk for severe weather on Wednedsay.SPC
The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk for much of Alabama on Wednesday.
The Level 1 risk area runs roughly along and south of the Interstate 20 corridor.
The main concerns will be the same: damaging winds, hail and heavy rain. A tornado could be possible.
Storms again will be more likely in the afternoon and evening.
THURSDAY

The southern part of Alabama will have a Level 1 risk for severe storms on Thursday.SPC
The threat for severe storms will shift southward on Thursday.
There will be a Level 1 out of 5 risk for the southern third of the state on Thursday, which means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
Storms again could have damaging winds, hail and heavy rain.
These storms are expected to develop along or ahead of a cold front, according to the weather service.
WHEN WILL IT END?
Rain and storms will be in the forecast for Alabama through Friday, but a big change is expected on Saturday.
On Saturday, sunny skies and pleasant temperatures are in the forecast for the entire state — and no severe weather is expected.
