Level 2 severe weather risk for Alabama on Sunday, Memorial Day

Yet another round of severe storms will be possible on Sunday in Alabama.

And Monday. And Tuesday too.

The National Weather Service said the strongest storms all three days could have winds strong enough to topple trees and take down power lines as well as hail and heavy rain.

The most likely time for storms Sunday will be from around noon through the nighttime hours, according to the weather service.

Forecasters will again be keeping their eyes to the northwest, where another complex of storms could form and track to the southeast toward Alabama.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 2 out of 5 (slight) risk for severe weather for the northern half of the state today. A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible.

Cities in the Level 2 risk today include Florence, Decatur, Huntsville, Cullman, Birmingham, Gadsden, Talladega and Tuscaloosa.

Nearly all of the rest of Alabama has a Level 1 (marginal) severe weather risk today, which means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

Cities in in the Level 1 risk area include Montgomery, Auburn, Troy, Greenville and Dothan.

Coastal areas, including Mobile, could have rain and storms today but not organized severe weather.

There will be a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather on both Monday and Tuesday for a large part of Alabama.

Damaging winds and hail will be the main hazards both days.

The weather service said storms will be the most likely from the afternoon into the evening hours both days as well.
