Legendary rock star fears he will be banned from touring US for criticizing Trump

He may not be able to keep on rockin’ in the free world.

That’s the concern from double Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Canadian native Neil Young, who told fans he fears he’ll be banned from America or jailed over his anti-Donald Trump rhetoric.

Young sets off for the European leg of his tour this summer before returning to the United States. He hold dual Canadian-American citizenship.

“When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket,” Young posted to his website on Tuesday.

That is happening all the time now. Countries have new advice for those returning to America (emphasis original),” Young wrote.

“If I come back from Europe and am barred, can’t play my USA tour, all the folks who bought tickets will not be able to come to a concert by me,” the rocker continued.

Young said the threat of being banned is more serious for Canadians amid the Trump administration’s effort to make the country the 51st state as tensions increase between the neighbors.

Born in Toronto, Young has lived in the U.S. since the mid ‘60s. After an early Los Angeles period, the mutton-chopped musician resided for decades at Broken Arrow, his ranch in Northern California. On Jan. 22, Young became a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S

“If you’re a dual citizen like me, who knows? We’ll all find that out together,” Young said.

The “Crazy Horse” member has publicly butted heads with Trump, saying the then-presidential candidate was not authorized to play “Rockin’ in the Free World” during his campaign kickoff at Trump Tower in 2015.

In 2020, Young penned an open letter to Trump, telling him, “you are a disgrace to my country.”

On Tuesday, Young lamented what his potential ban means for freedom.

“By these actions of our US government, it seems that those who speak out freely with their own opinions are now vulnerable to a non-existent Trump law,” he wrote.

“Then it seems to me that if you voted for Kamala Harris over Trump, that makes it possible for you to go to jail or be detained, punished or in some way for not showing allegiance to what?” Young continued.

“How spineless is that? Trump is not be able [sic] to stand up to anyone who does not agree with his ideas?”
