Legendary rock band says it won’t retire after all: ‘Incredibly excited’
Foreigner won’t be saying goodbye after all.
Two years after starting a farewell tour, the popular British-American rock band says they’re not ready to bid fans aideu.
“There’s just a lot of forward movement, and the band is incredibly excited,” bassist Jeff Pilson told Billboard. “What started off as being a farewell tour now ended up being Kelly (Hansen’s) last tour and (the band) moving forward.”
When Foreigner initially announded its farewell tour back in 2022, the band said lead singer Kelly Hansen was concerned about his vocal performance, according to iHeart Radio.
“This catalog of songs, it’s extremely challenging for a rock tenor vocalist like myself to sing,” he explained at the time. “I never thought in a million years I’d be singing these songs in the [original] keys at this age [then 61], and I don’t know how much longer I can do that at the level I need to…If I’m not doing it for real, I shouldn’t be doing it.”
In May, Hansen annouced his departure from the band. But, he also named his successor, the band’s lead guitarist, Luis Maldonado. Hansen praised Maldonado’s talent, energy, and soul, reports The Latin Times.
The change sparked new energy in the band and they plan to move forward with the new lineup.
Maldonado, who has taken the stage with Train and Lisa Marie Presley, joined Foreigner as a guitarist in 2021.
iHeart reports Hansen’s last shows with Foreigner are set to be Oct. 11 and 12 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. So far, the band’s tour lists dates running until 2026.
