Lawmakers in one state looking to ban electric vehicle sales
A group of Republican lawmakers in Wyoming want to stop the sale of electric vehicles in the state.
The measure, introduced in the state legislature last week, would end electric vehicles sales in the state by 2035.
The bill notes “oil and gas production” are essential industries in the state and that growth of electric vehicles would have “deleterious impacts” on its economy. Wyoming is lacking in electric vehicle charging stations, making widespread use of electric vehicles impractical, lawmakers said, and minerals found in the vehicle’s batteries will require landfills to develop additional practices in order for them to be safety disposed.
Fifteen other states, including New York and California, have moved to ban gas-powered vehicle sales, according to The Hill. The last clause of the Wyoming bill would require the Secretary of State there to send a copy of the bill to California governor Gavin Newsom.
