Latest Alabama injury updates before Mississippi State game
It appears Alabama football will be without two major contributors during Saturday’s matchup against Mississippi State. Inside linebacker Deontae Lawson and offensive guard Terrence Ferguson did not appear in uniform during pregame warmups in Starkville.
The two had been reported as unlikely to play earlier in the week. They both went down with ankle injuries against Ole Miss last week.
“Both guys were unable to practice today,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said Wednesday. “So that would put them in the category of very questionable.”
Ferguson had been serving a center during pregame warmups for one of Alabama’s quarterbacks before the Mississippi State game. He did not appear during that portion of warmups, and the Crimson Tide did not shift anyone else to the position, with Tyler Bucher warming up without a center.
He was injured while playing for starting guard Darrian Dalcourt against Ole Miss. Ferguson walked to the locker room during that game and did not return. Dalcourt, who came off the field with some sort of injury but later returned to the Ole Miss game, was in uniform during the pregame warmups in Starkville.
When the rest of the team came out to warm up later on, Lawson was not in uniform with them. He was listed as a possible starter on the distributed depth chart in the press box, along with Jihaad Campbell, who played well after Lawson’s injury last week.
Alabama and Mississippi State are scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. at Davis-Wade Stadium. The game will be aired on ESPN.
