Latest Alabama basketball injury update before Oklahoma: Will Derrion Reid play?
Alabama men’s basketball could be back to full strength for the start of SEC play Saturday, other than Latrell Wrightsell Jr. whose out for the season with an injury.
The No. 5 Crimson Tide (11-2) will face No. 12 Oklahoma (13-0) at 5 p.m. CT at Coleman Coliseum, and it could have both Derrion Reid (ankle) and Houston Mallette (illness) back in the lineup. They both missed the South Dakota State game.
“Derrion and Houston both practiced (Friday),” Alabama coach Nate Oats said. “Derrion was somewhat limited. Houston was just an illness, so he’s getting his wind back, trying to get his energy back. He will be available, probably not quite as much as in the past because he’s still coming off an illness. Derrion with an ankle injury. Better today than yesterday. They both will, in all likelihood, be available unless there’s some type of flare up or something from practice that I don’t anticipate.”
Reid is a five-star freshman who has averaged 17.8 minutes per game, which is sixth on the team. He is also averaging 7.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.4 blocks per game.
Mallette is a senior transfer from Pepperdine who was originally going to redshirt this season before Wrightsell sustained his injury.
Mallette has played in four games this season, averaging 10.5 minutes, 4.8 points, three rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.8 steals per game.
