Last surviving cast member of beloved ’60s TV show dies at 88

The last surviving main cast member of TV’s “Hogan’s Heroes” has died.

According to Variety, Kenneth Washington, who also had roles on a host of other popular ’60’s shows, died on July 18.

He was 88.

Washington played Sergeant Richard Baker in the show’s final season, beginning in 1970, replacing Ivan Dixon.

He also played Officer Miller on “Adam-12.”

His acting career included a guest starring role on “Star Trek” as engineer John B. Watkins in the third season show, “That Which Survives.”

He also appeared on “I Dream of Jeannie,” “My Three Sons,” “Petticoat Junction,” “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” “Dragnet 1967,” “The Rockford Files” and “Police Story.”

Some of his last television appearances were on “A Different World” in 1989.

A native of Ethel, Miss., Washington moved to the Bay Area of California and began his acting career in 1956 in the film “The Birds and the Bees.” He also appeared in 1973’s “Westworld.”

After his acting career, Washington earned his college degree and became an instructor at Loyola Marymount University, concentrating on Black actors in film.

He is survived by his wife, two siblings, three children, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
