Last game could be first for 2 with Alabama football roots
Practice-squad elevations on Saturday made four players with Alabama football roots eligible for Sunday NFL games, including three who have not played in 2023 and two who have never appeared in an NFL regular-season game.
For the final day of the NFL’s 2023 regular season, the Packers elevated wide receiver Grant DuBose (Park Crossing, Miles) for their game against the Chicago Bears and the Kansas City Chiefs elevated quarterback Chris Oladokun (Samford) for their game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Neither player has appeared in an NFL regular-season game.
Other practice-squad players elevated on Saturday included Carolina Panthers guard Deonte Brown (Alabama) and Bears cornerback Christian Matthew (Samford). The Panthers close their season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A sixth-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, Brown has spent most of his NFL career on Carolina’s practice squad. He has played in three NFL regular-season games, with his most recent appearance on Jan. 9, 2022.
A seventh-round pick from Valdosta State, Matthew played in 14 games, with three starts, for the Arizona Cardinals as a rookie in 2022. He played in four games for Arizona before being waived. Matthew has played in one game since joining the Bears’ practice squad on Oct. 4.
DuBose joined the Packers as a seventh-round selection from Charlotte on April 29 and has spent his rookie season on Green Bay’s practice squad.
A seventh-round selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers from South Dakota State in the 2022 NFL Draft, Oladokun has spent his two NFL seasons on Kansas City’s practice squad.
Each NFL team can elevate two practice-squad players to active status for every game.
