Las Vegas Raiders fire head coach, general manager

After Las Vegas lost to the Detroit Lions 26-14 on Monday night, Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was asked if he had any suggestions for sparking the team’s offense.

“I don’t know,” the former Alabama ball-carrier said. “That ain’t my job.”

It’s not Josh McDaniels’ job anymore either.

On Tuesday night, the Raiders fired the head coach and general manager David Ziegler.

Both came to Las Vegas from the New England Patriots before the 2022 season.

After posting a 6-11 record in 2022, Las Vegas has a 3-5 record in 2023.

“After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave,” Las Vegas owner Mark Davis said in a statement released by the team. “I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.”

ESPN reported linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will be appointed as the Raiders’ interim head coach.

Among the NFL’s 32 teams, Las Vegas ranks 30th with an average of 15.8 points per game and 31st with an average of 268.3 yards per game.

During the offseason, the Raiders parted ways with Derek Carr, their quarterback for nine seasons, and replaced him with Jimmy Garoppolo, who played for McDaniels when the coach was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator. Injuries have sidelined Garoppolo for two of the previous five games, and he completed only 10-of-21 passes for 126 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the loss to Detroit.
