Las Vegas Aces select Alabama guard in WNBA Draft

The Las Vegas Aces selected Alabama guard Brittany Davis with the final pick of the 27th WNBA Draft on Monday night.

The Aces are the defending WNBA champions after posting a Western Conference-best 26-10 regular-season record last season and winning three playoff series to capture the league crown.

With the final choice in the third round – the 36th pick overall – Las Vegas added Davis. She was the only selection for the Aces in this year’s draft.

A 5-foot-9 guard, Davis earned All-SEC recognition in the 2022-23 season, when she averaged 17.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals in 30 games.

Davis capped her career with the Crimson Tide by scoring 33 points in a 78-74 loss to Baylor in the first round of the NCAA women’s tournament on March 18.

In 2021-22, Davis averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals in 34 games and was an All-SEC second team pick.

Davis became an all-star and a WNBA Draft pick after missing the 2020-21 season, when her daughter was born.

Davis became the eighth player selected from Alabama in a WNBA Draft. The others have been:

· Jasmine Walker, No. 7 by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2021

· Monique Bivins, No. 37 by the Minnesota Lynx in 2005

· LaNisha Cartwell, No. 33 by the Washington Mystics in 2002

· Shondra Johnson, No. 42 by the Houston Comets in 2002

· Tausha Mills, No. 2 by the Washington Mystics in 2000

· Shalonda Enis, No. 13 by the Washington Mystics in 1999

· Dominique Canty, No. 29 by the Detroit Shock in 1999

Guard Jordan Lewis was selected by the Connecticut Sun from Baylor with the 24th pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft. Before playing her final collegiate year with the Bears, Lewis played in five seasons at Alabama.

The Indiana Fever started Monday night’s draft in New York by selecting South Carolina All-American forward Aliyah Boston.

Boston was the first and Davis the last of the nine SEC players picked on Monday night, with five coming from South Carolina. The other selections from the conference included:
