Lane Kiffin savagely trolls Alabama as Tide takes huge portal hit
It was a tough day in Tuscaloosa.
And Lane Kiffin is here to rub a little salt in the wound.
The Ole Miss coach posted to “X,” the social media platformer formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday.
Let’s just say if a picture is worth a thousand words, then there is plenty to read into his posts that seem to show him making a visit to Tuscaloosa.
The Tide, on the heels of Nick Saban retiring, has had an exodus of players hit the portal, with Caleb Downs and Kadyn Proctor having been the latest.
As you know, players get a window of 30 days to hit the portal after a coach leaves the program.
The problem for Alabama is that the program is losing players but can’t replace them through the portal because it is closed everywhere else.
Not that anybody is feeling sorry for the Tide.
Enter Kiffin, whose post leaves little to the imagination. Sure, he could be driving through Tuscaloosa.
More likely, he is recruiting. Either way, Kiffin has been on a roll — if you’ll excuse the play on words — of late.
Kiffin beat Auburn to the punch earlier Wednesday when he released a statement that Derrick Nix was joining the Tigers as the new offensive coordinator.
As reported earlier on AL.com, Kiffin’s statement notes that Nix will call plays for Auburn.
Per Matt Cohen, that is significant “because Nix’s Ole Miss contract included a buyout should he leave for an offensive coordinator job without play-calling duties.”
The Ole Miss coach reposted an Andy Staples piece saying that “today’s Caleb Downs news shows just how much of a fistfight it’s going to be for Kalen DeBoer and every other new hire.”
