Lane Kiffin reacts to Kalen DeBoer hire at Alabama

Lane Kiffin didn’t wait long to react the news Friday when it was reported Alabama made Washington coach Kalen DeBoer the new Crimson Tide football coach.

ESPN reported Friday afternoon that DeBoer, who guided the Huskies to a Pac-12 championship and the CFP championship game, agreed to a deal to become the man who will follow Nick Saban, who retired this week.

Kiffin, who was often mentioned as a potential replacement by a number of media outlets, posted a short message on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Looking at next year’s schedule,” he posted.

Of course, the Rebels don’t play the Crimson Tide in 2024, at least not the in the regular season. But with a 12-team playoff coming, anything is possible.

SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy said this week that Kiffin “ain’t an option” for the Alabama football job.

The former Alabama quarterback stated his case on his show “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX 94.5-FM in Birmingham.

“Ya’ll, Kiffin ain’t an option,” he said Thursday. “I’m just going to tell you right now. Let’s just get out in front of it. Stop. It ain’t happening.

McElroy said Kiffin “burned too many bridges in Tuscaloosa.”
