Lane Kiffin points out âweird thingsâ happen at Auburn: âWe played a really ugly first halfâ
Lane Kiffin wishes he wasn’t right, but a couple of miscues put the Ole Miss Rebels in a hole during the first half Saturday night at Auburn.
Kiffin and his team find themselves in a 14-14 tie at Jordan Hare Stadium.
“It happens in this stadium,” he said at halftime on ESPN about the first-half miscues. “Weird things happen. We screw up the field goal, bad punt, but, you know, to be tied at half, and we played a really ugly half, and weathered their storm.”
At the Auburn 10 and attempting a field goal, the snap was botched and Charlie Pollock threw a desperation pass, which was intercepted by Zion Puckett.
Then there was a horrendous punt with roughly a minute left in the half. Ole Miss’ Fraser Masin’s punt sailed just 12 yards to the Auburn 45. Kiffin didn’t seem deterred.
“It’s a four-quarter game,” Kiffin said. “This team’s built for that.”
The Rebels amassed 240 yards of offense, including 144 rushing yards, in the first half, 100 more than Auburn, but Ole Miss has two turnovers.
“We had the one bad throw,” he said. “We got the turnover. We’ve run the ball really well. We just have to come out and play a clean second half.”
