Lane Kiffin has message for Alabama fans concerned with Nick Saban’s coordinator hires
Lane Kiffin has a message for all Alabama fans concerned about Nick Saban filling his coordinator positions.
On Sunday, ESPN reported Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, 64, will be the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator. It will be the third time Steele has been part of Alabama’s staff. He was Saban’s first defensive coordinator at Alabama in 2007.
As far as offensive coordinator, Alabama is expected to name Notre Dame’s Tommy Rees to the position after Bill O’Brien, whose contract was expiring, took the same job with the New England Patriots.

While the coaching searches for both spots appeared to take longer than fans had wanted – and it was clear neither were the first choice – Kiffin took to Twitter to ease the minds of Crimson Tide fans.
“The GOAT just signed the No. 1 recruiting class with no coordinators,” the Ole Miss coach tweeted Monday. “Relax, Alabama.”
Kiffin is no stranger to Tuscaloosa, having serves as the Alabama offensive coordinator from 2014-2016.
Meanwhile, Pete Golding – Alabama’s last defensive coordinator – left for the same job with Kiffin’s Rebels. Golding had been the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator since 2018. Golding helped guide the Tide to a national championship after the 2020 season and a title game appearance a year later. Alabama failed to make the College Football Playoff this season.
