Lane Kiffin bringing Joey Chestnut to Ole Miss spring game for hot-dog eating contest

Lane Kiffin is mixing things up this spring.

The Ole Miss coach revealed Tuesday that Joey Chestnut makes will make an appearance at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for the Rebels’ Grove Bowl Games for a hot dog-eating contest.

Kiffin reached out to the world record competitive eater.

“I did what everybody does nowadays,” Kiffin said, per the Clarion Ledger. “I just DMed him. Slid into his DMs.”

Chestnut is best known for his 16 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest titles he wins every July 4,

“I think this guy, you talk about the goat of goats,” Kiffin said, per RebelGrove.com. “He took the one year off and I want to say it’s 17 years otherwise to be the world champ at something. That’s pretty cool to have him around.”

Kiffin also explained the format of the Grove Bowl Games.

“I would kind of describe (the games) as like a Pro Bowl Plus, meaning the seven-on-seven would look like what you’ve watched the Pro Bowl before, the flag football part,” the former Alabama offensive coordinator said, per Sports Illustrated. “The players have drafted teams, coaches, players, everything for that. There’ll be some fan involvement in some different things, fraternity and sorority.

“There’ll be an obstacle course. There’ll be a dunk competition, and there’ll be a hot dog eating competition, and Joey Chestnut will be here for that.”

In July, Chestnut downed 62 franks and buns in 10 minutes. Chestnut, 40, first competed for the Nathan’s title in 2005 and hasn’t lost it since 2015. His best finish was in 2021 when he tallied 76 hot dogs.
