Landon Dickerson is serious about mowing the lawn

After signing a four-year, $84 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles, guard Landon Dickerson got a big laugh at his press conference by saying he wanted to use his financial windfall to “get a new lawnmower. Something I’ve been looking into. A zero-turn.”

But it wasn’t a joke to Dickerson.

Later, the former Alabama All-American posted on his Instagram account an aerial photo of his yard featuring intersecting mower stripes.

“Y’all thought I was playing about my lawn,” Dickerson wrote. “I take pride in my stripes.”

During an appearance on CBS Sports Radio’s “The Jim Rome Show” on Wednesday, Dickerson reiterated his plan to get a new lawnmower now that he’s the highest-paid guard in the NFL.

“I plan on throwing down for a lawnmower,” Dickerson said. “I haven’t gotten one quite yet. Luckily, the Northeast right now, it’s not quite grass-cutting season, so I got a few weeks left until I’m going to have to start mowing, so really for me, in the market, looking for a nice lawnmower. I’m a big guy, so finding one that’s going to be comfortable for me and fits me, and then just enjoy cutting some grass. I’m a simple man when it comes to that. …

“Really just for me, looking for, like, a commercial lawnmower, something that cuts a little faster, a little wider of a deck and that’s really about it.”

Dickerson said he enjoys cutting the grass.

“It’s just a little time to yourself,” Dickerson said. “You get out there, you can throw some headphones in, you can listen to music, listen to a podcast, audiobook, really whatever you want to do, and it’s just relaxing.

“I used to, growing up, I’d mow yards in the neighborhood, and that was push-mowing and walking a push mower around. You get on a zero-turn lawnmower, I can just sit there, use the handles, mow a couple of acres in a couple of hours and it’s really just peace, quiet, being outside, being in the sun, nice fresh air.”

Dickerson said he likes “the crime podcasts,” but he isn’t picky about his listening choices while mowing.

“I really don’t pay attention to it too much,” Dickerson said. “It’s just kind of background noise.”
