Lana Del Rey seen shopping at local mall before Alabama concert

She’s the pop star most likely to shop at Dillard’s. Glamourous, talented and legendary as Lana Del Rey is, she’s relatable too. The way the songs she writes and sings make everyday stuff like watching someone else play video games or drinking Diet Mountain Dew sound epic. But also in the places she’s been turning up during a string of public sightings in Alabama this year, most famously working a brief shift as a Waffle House waitress in Florence.

The latest Del Rey sightings have happened in Huntsville. Ahead of her sold-out concert at the city’s Orion Amphitheater tonight, Del Rey has been spotted at the local shopping mall Parkway Place, including in the Dillard’s department store there. The photos have been shared on Del Rey fan accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

In a Hollywood Reporter interview this week, Del Rey explained how her Waffle House waitressing, images from which went viral and made national news, came about. As AL.com previously reported, Del Rey was in town visiting family in the Florence area. In her song “Paris, Texas” — off her 2023 album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” which topped the charts in several countries and debuted at number three in the U.S. – Del Rey sings of going, “to see some friends of mine, down in Florence, Alabama.”

This summer in Alabama, she also turned up at a Birmingham nail salon, interacted with fans in downtown Florence, and shopped at a Russellville boutique. She also did an impromptu recording session at legendary Sheffield studio Muscle Shoals Sound.

Del Rey, who’s based in Los Angeles, has sold more than 12 million albums, including her buzzy 2012 major-label debut LP “Born to Die.” She’s known mini-noir-movie songs like “Summertime Sadness” (closing in on a billion Spotify streams), “West Coast” (around 500,000,000 streams) and many others. Del Rey’s also a big influence on the latest generation of female megastars, including Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish.
