Lana Del Rey announces rare concert date in Alabama
Following a series of buzzed-about sightings earlier this summer in Alabama, Lana Del Rey has announced a concert date in Huntsville, Alabama, for her new tour. Del Rey, an alternative pop singer/songwriter known for moody songs like “West Coast,” “Video Games” and Summertime Sadness,” and her band will perform at Orion Amphitheater 7:30 p.m. September 21.
Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. August 25 via axs.com and the Orion Box Office, located at 701 Amphitheater Drive N.W. As of publishing, ticket prices have not been announced.
It was an exciting July for Lana Del Rey fans in Alabama. In Birmingham, the Los-Angeles-via-New-York star seen by fans at a nail salon and, reportedly, a Starbucks. She was spotted in downtown Florence while reportedly stepping out for some pizza. Del did some shopping at a Russellville boutique and Rey even pulled a shift at a local Waffle House.
Before leaving Alabama to perform a concert in Arkansas, Del Rey showed up at legendary Sheffield recording studio Muscle Shoals Sound for an impromptu recording session that yielded a handful of tracks.
In March, Del Rey released her ninth studio album, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” which topped the charts in several countries and debuted at number three in the U.S. The second verse to the song “Paris, Texas” from that new LP goes, “I took a train to Spain, just a notebook in my hand/Then I went to see some friends of mine, down in Florence, Alabama.”
Early in Del Rey’s Alabama summer spree, speculation abounded on why she was spending so much time in Alabama. Two different sources later told AL.com she was in the state visiting family.
Del Rey is one of the 21st century’s most iconic pop musicians. Her songs have been streamed billions of times and she has more than 25 million social media followers and she’s inspired a new generation of stars included megastar Billie Eilish.
Del Rey’s Orion Amphitheater show will mark her first-ever concert in Huntsville and a rare performance for her in the state of Alabama. In 2020, she was scheduled for Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores but that was canceled after the pandemic hit.
Del Rey’s just-announced tour in support of “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” is scheduled to kickoff Sept. 14 at FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee.
