Krispy Kreme explores sale of Insomnia Cookies

Krispy Kreme is considering selling Insomnia Cookies in order to focus on doughnuts.

In an announcement, the company said it was “exploring strategic alternatives,” even considering an all-cash sale.

Insomnia Cookies, which Krispy Kreme bought a majority stake in back in 2018, now has more than 250 locations. There are four in Alabama – in Auburn, Birmingham, Mobile and Tuscaloosa, according to the website.

Krispy Kreme’s aim with the deal was to push the cookie brand internationally. The company now is forecast to generate $230 million in sales this year, with about 45% of its revenue coming from online sales.

Krispy Kreme CEO Mike Tattersfield said that “it’s time for the next strategic step for both companies.”

Krispy Kreme has 13,000 locations in 37 countries.
